Pain-Free Posture/Lower Back Pain
Laura Cotler is a STOTT PILATES Certified Pilates Instructor, and Injuries and Special Populations Specialist (ISPS) and specializes in lower back pain associated with most lower back problems, including facet syndrome, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal instability, degenerative disc disease, herniated interverteberal disc, osteoarthritis, spinal fusions or sacroiliac dysfunction. When necessary, Laura communicates with your health care provider on an ongoing basis, increasing the likelihood of you regaining and improving your strength and stability. Laura also specializes in Posture Analysis, teaching postural awareness, how to stabilize the spine in all planes of movement, how to access the deep core muscles and perform movements that are smooth and effortless, her goal is to help you get out of pain.
Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
We help clients with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome develop a gentle and effective exercise program for home or in the studio. We understand that Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can be exhausting and debilitating. The last thing on your mind is exercise, but it is truly one thing under your control that can help you the most, and can actually make you feel better. Exercise releases endorphins, which create a happy feeling (endorphins are released because you complete something challenging and feel good about it, or because you reach a certain point in your exercise program). One key to exercising while in the throes of this syndrome (many people tend to “cycle through” symptoms and have bad days and not-so-bad days) is to NOT overdo it. If you exercise too hard, you may “pay for it” the next day with increased pain and fatigue. Gentle stretching and core strengthening, along with moving your spine through various planes of movement can be uplifting and soothing and help you to feel better.
Pre-Natal Pilates (scheduled by appointment)
A wonderful experience for you and baby, Pilates improves your psychological well-being, and your increased fitness may help you cope with labor better. We will guide you through gentle and effective exercises for increased strength, energy and stability during pregnancy, and preparation for post-delivery.
Sports-Specific Training
Despite its slow, careful movements, Pilates is not for wimps! Pro athletes like NHL player Eddie Belfour, NBA star Kobe Bryant, and Tennis pro Martina Navratilova benefit from using STOTT PILATES equipment and instruction. The STOTT PILATES method places importance on core stability and rebalancing the muscles making them work more efficiently. This helps prevent injury and improves athletic ability.
